PERSONAL & WORK ENVIRONMENTAL SAMPLERS

Chemical substances used, handled or emanating as By-products in various processes in industry disperse in the work atmosphere as Gases, Vapours and Aerosols. The absorption of the chemicals, above a certain does range, may lead to the causation of various adverse effects on the health of these persons. It is essential to evaluate the levels of pollutants in the work environment to find out whether the levels are within the permissible limits.

HANDY SAMPLER
Model HDS -8
HANDY SAMPLER

For easy & convenient handling the Handy Sampler is constructed with all the required items mounted in a compact case. It is fitted with Pump, Rotameter with Flow Controller, timer and Sampling Devices. It operates on Rechargeable Sealed Maintenance free Lead Acid Battery. The Battery Charger is built in. Model HDS-8 is Stainless Steel construction & non indicating timer which can be selected in steps of 1,4 & 8 hrs.

FILTER PAPER HOLDER

IMPINGERS ACTIVATED CHARCOAL TUBES
FILTER PAPER HOLDER
For monitoring of Dust, Fliter
Paper Holders are used. They
are available in Acrylic Body
and in Two Sizes 47mm Dia
and 25mm Dia.
IMPINGERS
For analysis of Inorganic Gases
such as SO2, Nox etc. the air is
passed through absorbing
solution filled in the impingers
and then appropriate analytical
technique is used.
ACTIVATED CHARCOAL TUBES
For analysis of Hydrocarbons &
Solvent Vapours these Tubes
are used. The Charcoal is then
desorbed with CS2 and then
analysed on GC.

Applications Analytical Methods

Identification of Pollutants present in the environment. The assessment of Personal Exposures.  The determination of the General background levels.  To check efficiency and effectiveness of Control Measures.
To find out TWA and STEL values of Airborne
Chemicals. Monitoring of respirable Dust.
Monitoring of Radioactive Dust.  Analysis of Ammonia, H2S, Sulphuric Acid Mist, Free Chlorine etc. using Impingers.

The chosen analytical methods will be
dependent on the type of the pollutant. If it is dust
collected on a filtering medium the Gravimetric
Method could be adopted. If the particulate contain metals or their compounds, Atomic Absroption Spectrophotometry could be used. In the case of  Gases and Vapours, Titrimetric Method or Spectrophotometric Method is used. Organic pollutants are collected on Absorbing materials (Activated Charcoal, Silica Gel) then desorbed and analysed Chromatographically using Flame-ionisation or Photoionisation Detectors.

RESPIRABLE DUST SAMPLER

Measurement of the concentration of the pollutants in the work environment  can be made by monitoring in the Employee's Respiratory Zone, or better still, by fixing Portable Sampling Unit to the employee's clothing. This is called Personal Sampling. We offer following models for Personal Sampling :
Model PMP-3B, Model RDS-3 & Model LFP-2.
For enabling valid integrated samples to be taken of the air actually inhaled by the employee, under normal working conditions, the Personal Sampler is very useful, and is recommended by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S.A.

RESPIRABLE DUST SAMPLER Model RDS - 3
RESPIRABLE DUST SAMPLER

In work environment it is important to measure the concentration of dust. However it is not sufficient to know how much is the suspended particulate matter, but what is the respirable component of it is also required to be known. This is actually the dust, which will go to the lungs and will cause ill effect on the human health. From research it is found that dust particles of size more than 10 micron are unable to reach the lungs. The dust concentration in the size of particles between 0.4 to 10 micron is required to be measured.

The equipment essentially consists of :-
* A pump with flow rate of 1.6 LPM
* Sampling Head

The Pump : It is lightweight with rechargeable batteries lasting for 8 hours when charged fully. The flow rate adjustment is available to adjust at 1.6 LPM. The rotameter is optional, but it should be available to adjust the flow rate. Once adjusted, the rotameter can be disconnected.

The sampling head consist of : Filter paper holder & Cyclone. The filter paper holder is of 47 mm dia in which 0.4 micron filter paper can be kept.

The cyclone construction is such that when the air enters, due to the centrifugal force, particles heavier than 10 micron size are thrown to bottom.

The cyclone & filter paper holder are connected together such a way that air enters the cyclone, heavy particles are thrown below and air with lighter dust particles travels through the filter paper. Particles between 0.4 micron & 10 micron are collected on the filter paper. The filter paper is weighed before and after the sampling. Keeping flow rate of 1.6 LPM, sampling is done for 8 hrs.

The concentration of respirable dust is reported in micrograms / cubic meter.
